PURCHASING MOVING BOXES AND SUPPLIES
The first thing you’ll have to decide when moving is how many boxes and supplies you need to purchase. This is different for everyone and will depend on the size of your apartment or house, and the overall volume of everything that is to be moved. When making an estimate of how many boxes you will need, make sure to add in a couple of extra boxes to the total so that if your prediction end up being too low you will not run out of room. Rather than using just one size box, you should instead use a variety of large boxes, medium boxes, and small boxes to keep your boxes as light as possible without them being too small to house your larger items.
As far as box quality goes: the sturdier the better. Grocery supply boxes and other retail cardboard boxes can appear sturdy at first, and then break apart before you reach your destination. Heavy-duty moving tape should be utilized to reinforce the boxes and keep them from coming open during transit. Tape is perhaps the second-most essential moving supply (besides the boxes of course) and should not be passed on for any reason.
Padding the interior of the boxes is important as well, and bubble wrap often does the job very well without making a mess like Styrofoam. If you have clothing to be moved as well, can use shirts, pants and other articles to pad the interior of boxes, which can save you some room when you start packing up your wardrobe.
Make sure to use thick black markers to label boxes with their contents and destination (i.e. kitchen, bedroom etc.). Knowing which boxes go where will save you a lot of time when you are unpacking.
